Hez Wollin, MSW, LICSW
Individual and Family Therapist
Philosophy and Approach
My therapeutic work is informed by my belief that early relationships strongly impact our ability to connect with others. These patterns can resonate with us throughout our adult lives, often keeping us stuck in confusing dynamics. The therapeutic relationship allows clients to practice new ways of relating to others and can serve as a lens to look at other relationships. My goal as a therapist is to create a space that facilitates healing and transformation by understanding each person’s unique life experiences, strengths, and needs.
I specialize in working with LGBTQ+ communities of all ages on concerns around gender identity, sexuality, family acceptance, and relationships. My clinical expertise also covers issues of anxiety, depression, family of origin issues, attachment disruptions, trauma, grief, and loss. I use a variety of different therapy modalities ranging from evidence-based practices like CBT and DBT to depth-oriented, psychodynamic work. I am also trained in sensorimotor therapy (level 1) and use somatic tools to understand the lived experience of trauma.
Experience and Education
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Washington (LW60550038). I received my Master’s in Social Work from Smith College School for Social Work, and my Bachelor’s of Arts from Columbia University. Prior to working in private practice, I was a therapist in community mental health and school-based settings, with a special focus on working with LGBTQ+ youth, survivors of assault and domestic violence, and young children and parents. I also serve as adjunct faculty at the University of Washington School of Social Work. I am a bilingual (Spanish) therapist and can provide therapy in Spanish. I use an anti-oppression/social justice lens in my practice, and believe that our environment has just as much impact on our mental health as our individual constitutions. In my spare time, I enjoy biking, reading, exploring the Northwest, and learning about astrology.
