ABOUT

I earned my Master’s degree in Community Counseling from Seattle University. During my mental health career, I have worked in a variety of settings including community mental health clinics, private practice, hospitals, jails, and in private homes.  I have a background in visual and performing arts and also spent time working in international humanitarian aid prior to working as a therapist.

As a therapist, I start from a place of wanting to understand some of your primary relationships, how they have shaped your view of the world, and how that viewpoint may be impacting your  current relationships.  I take a client-centered approach, meaning I allow you to lead the way and always encourage feedback about what feels most helpful.  I integrate some cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, mindfulness, somatic and EMDR techniques as well, giving a tailored approach for each client depending on their unique needs.  In my work as a couple’s therapist, I draw from the research of John and Julie Gottman in helping couples find a path forward.

I believe in helping people look without judgment at all sides of themselves to deepen their self understanding and acceptance. For many of my clients, it has been incredibly helpful just having someone listen to their story and reflect that their feelings are valid.   I really trust that when people are given the space to reflect, they are very good at finding their own path toward a healthier and more fulfilling life.  That said, I do push my clients to identify where some of their behavior may conflict with their priorities and their goals.  I believe I serve my client’s best when I give them honest feedback about inconsistencies I observe in their behavior and stated desires.
