Whether you have been in therapy for years, or if this is your first time, meeting with a new therapist can be one of the most difficult parts of therapy. It is common to have concerns, such as “what if this isn’t a good match? When will I feel comfortable opening-up about my difficulties from the past or present? How can I trust someone I’ve just met with sensitive information?” I believe the most important part of treatment is having a strong therapeutic relationship that is cultivated through warmth, compassion, and humor. I use a person-centered approach that focuses on autonomy and empathic understanding, recognizing that human beings are very complex, and that perspectives and feelings are subjective. In sessions, we explore dynamics of childhood and family systems, and examine how social and cultural constructs influence ones’ feelings and attitudes. This helps us understand our own patterns; why we think, behave, and hold certain beliefs, which is important in developing insight to achieve treatment goals.
I specialize in working with young adults, teens, and individuals who are navigating relationship issues, low self-esteem, anxiety/depression, OCD and work-life balance. I use eclectic interventions and tools depending on the personal learning and therapy styles of each client.
