ABOUT
As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate, I enjoy working with adults and teenagers. During my internship, I worked with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, relationships, cross-cultural challenges, self-esteem, sexuality and gender issues, aging, substance use, and grief and loss.
I believe that you are unique and expert in your own life, able to make changes that increase your sense of satisfaction — sometimes with just a few simple steps and guidance. My role is to empower you to make those changes and support you throughout. Customizing a plan for every client that considers your goals, needs and motivation is an important first step in working together. To do this, I draw from several evidence-based therapy models, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Narrative Therapy. Working together, we can examine, question and reframe parts of your life that shape your self-perception and feelings. Applying mindfulness to help you stay focused on the present, here and now, can be another important tool. Often, therapy deals with difficult thoughts, feelings and emotions that require someone who really listens to you in order to help you progress. A key strength of mine is reflective listening that stems from my time as a teacher of people learning English as an additional language. This experience has strengthened my ability to look at challenges from different viewpoints and to be creative in how we approach helping you live a rich and meaningful life.
My education and training have motivated me to adopt a holistic approach to counseling, recognizing the mind-body connection and the importance of clients’ belief systems, including spirituality. In the initial sessions, establishing a strong therapeutic relationship based on a foundation of safety and non-judgement is my primary clinical goal.
My education and experience allow me to work with clients navigating various challenges, including depression, anxiety, self-esteem, peer-relationships, and life transitions. I am available for both brief and long-term therapy.
