Why supervision: Research on supervision highlights the benefits of competent supervision for the supervisee and the supervisor.
Supervisees who receive competent supervision report increased professional satisfaction, higher client retention rates, and improved ability to manage challenging caseloads. Furthermore, supervisees who experienced competent supervision demonstrated higher levels of self-efficacy, enhanced skill transferability, proficiency in giving and receiving feedback during supervision, and positive outcomes in their client work. Supervisors who undergo structured competent supervision training report a decrease in anxiety associated when providing supervisee oversight and an increased sense of professional competence. Additionally, competent supervisor training promotes professional development, creates new career opportunities, and generates additional sources of revenue (Watkins et al., 2019; Watkins, 2014).
